Lisa Duvall

Community Outreach Partner

I love working for Future Plans because it has provided me with the opportunity to continue working with the Appalachian people and communities that I grew up with, that gave me a chance and that I love. Helping people discover what's strong inside themselves and chart a course for success makes our communities strong as well, and the Future Plans model works.

About Lisa Duvall

Lisa Duvall is a dedicated advocate for Appalachian communities, serving at Future Plans with a passion for helping people and organizations recognize what’s possible—and connecting them to the resources to achieve it. Raised and still living in under-resourced communities, Lisa’s journey in public service began as a teacher, inspired by the profound influence educators had on her own life. Her career has since woven through education, community and economic development, media, politics, and local government, always with a focus on empowering others to overcome barriers and realize their potential.

Lisa’s day-to-day work is guided by openness, resilience, and creativity. She believes that the resources communities need extend beyond finances to include flexibility and the ability to think beyond imposed limitations. Her impact is felt not just by individuals, but by the larger community—whether she’s quietly supporting a student through a challenging assessment or helping organizations find capacity and create new pathways to success.

A recent story that stands out involves a young man in foster care who, through Lisa’s encouragement, discovered how his interest in refurbishing technology could serve others facing similar challenges. Lisa’s ability to listen, respect each person’s uniqueness, and demonstrate genuine care helps those around her thrive.

Lisa collaborates with schools, agencies, chambers of commerce, and political subdivisions, fostering partnerships that build resilience and capacity. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and is proudest of raising two children who are also making a difference in the world. As a member of Village Council in Shadyside, Belmont County, Lisa continues to serve her community, championing substantive improvements for all.

Outside of work, Lisa enjoys reading, connecting with people, and embarking on “death-defying adventures” with friends—including hiking the Grand Canyon in July. Her vision for the coming year is to bring together diverse groups and ideas, believing that collaboration lightens the load and brings communities closer to their shared goals.
