When Will B. first walked through the doors of the HUB, he was experiencing homelessness and in recovery. Like many who visit, he came seeking basic necessities—a meal, a moment of stability. But it quickly became clear that Will wanted more than help getting by. He wanted to build a new life.
Will told staff his dream was simple but powerful: he wanted to be successful. He completed the Future Plans assessment and entered the Future Plans 5 Step Process, and that decision set everything else in motion. The assessment revealed a strong fit for a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License), and Will found a training program in Zanesville he believed in. But getting there wasn’t simple; transportation and logistics stood squarely in his way.
Breaking Barriers & Building Success
That’s where Debi, the GRIT Coordinator, stepped in. At Future Plans, we recognize that success isn’t just about finding the right path—it’s about clearing the way to walk it. Rather than letting transportation stand in Will’s way, Debi worked closely with him to build a plan. Together, they partnered with the CDL training program and coordinated the transportation and support Will needed to get to class every day.
The work paid off.
Today, Will walks back into the HUB with his head held high—not as someone in need, but as someone worth celebrating. He completed his CDL training, earned his license, and is now working in the trucking industry, building the future he once only dreamed about.
Will’s journey proves that when individuals are connected to the right resources, encouragement, and community support, barriers can become opportunities and lives can be permanently changed.
Future Plans and the GRIT Program are proud to be part of his success.
